Wow! That's great, Melanie! So glad to hear it! That's gotta feel real good, getting 'er done.
I'm looking forward to having an excuse to reread GK! ![]() Did you scrap what you'd written previously or finish it up?

Oh, COOL!!!!! Wonderful, wonderful news!! I actually just re-read GK earlier this year because it had been a while since I last read it, and it's such a great book. I'm so happy it's finished!!!
Melanie, is the Gordon Crabbe artwork still going to be used? I've loved that painting ever since you showed a lucky few of us the print at WorldCon in 98. Funny thing, I Googled the artist's name a couple of months ago, checking yet again to see if he happened to have a website up... and I found his agent's site. Poking around, I clicked on the Originals For Sale link and THERE WAS THE DIVINER! For a reasonable price, even, considering what a Whelan painting goes for (no doubt due to its smallish size--it's just 10 x 16). I sent an inquiry to Ms. Eldred, and a short while later the painting arrived on my doorstep, complete with the original DAW label on the back from 1997 . The incredible detail he's put into a piece that size just blows me away! I had it framed at a place that does fabulous work, and this beautiful painting is now in a place of honor in my house. I'll be so thrilled if this is the painting that is still going to grace the cover of the book! I've uploaded some photos to a Google album if anybody's curious to see: http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo...eat=directlink

Thank you thank you for posting this--I haven't seen that c-print of the cover in about 10 years, and was trying to remember the basics so I could tie in some descriptions in the text. You have just made my life easier--and these days, that's pure gold to me.

WOW - great news, I'm glad I finally came back to the BB after months of being gone. But one quick question -
WHY in Goddess's Green Creation would you want to move to OREGON?!?!?!? (I live here, am a transplant from Colorado. Trust me. It sucks) ((mostly the weather, we just started the "Forget About Seeing the Sun For 6 Months" part of the year))

Belated reply to the question about what I used and what I didn't of what I'd already written--
Yes, I used it, but yes, I changed it quite a bit. And the Diviner didn't turn out to be the character I thought he would--I mean, he's the right character, but his character is different, if you get what I mean. (Sorry, brain fried just by watching the Pythons talk about "Life of Brian"--I was laughing so hard I didn't dare watch the movie itself again in case I did myself an injury. One thing I hadn't known was that Keith Moon "came over to play" with them in Barbados while they were beginning the process of writing "Brian." I always thought he'd make an outstanding guest star in any or all of the Python ventures. Dear Looney Moonie...) Anyhow, re: the Diviner, he did turn out to be interesting in ways different from the ways I'd originally thought he'd be interesting. And I'm still not making any sense, am I? |

Actually, it makes perfect sense. You started with one premise of him, and he grew on his own from there, and you simply went with the flow. I do it in DnD campaigns all the time
Its the whole reason I refuse to plan anything out anymore, and just free flow everything. Stupid NPC's never do what I tell them >.<

Oh my goodness. I am speechless. Speechless and excited. This is awesome. But all my copies of GK are in the US, so I'm going to have to give thought to the logistics of a reread. Hmmm... But woooo!

I accept with information:Jenifer and Kate cannot even begin to write their books until Melanie has finished Diviner. You can't write a sequel without knowing the history that came before.

Locus has once again acknowledged that I exist. They ignored "Fire Raiser" in terms of reviewing it, but in this month's issue there's a little announcement in the news section that I'd turned in "Diviner." I didn't tell them, and my agent didn't tell them, so I'm thinking it was either my publisher (DAW for this one) or one of you adorable people. If the latter, thanks much.
Also re: Locus--I don't know if any of you subscribe to it, but all of you ought to know the name Charles Brown. Well, Charlie died last year. He was the editor of Locus. My Charlie Story is that the first time I met him, I hadn't had anything published yet--was introduced to him at a party at a Worldcon. I'd spent the evening blithering, basically, meeting all these people I'd read forever, and I'd practiced my manners: "It's a very great pleasure to meet you, ((whomever))." So when I'm introduced to Charlie, I shook his hand and said, "I'm very pleased to meet you, Mr. Locus." He never let me forget it, either! But y'know, I was right. |

I was just wondering if there was a pub date for Diviner yet?
